STA. BARBARA, Pangasinan, Philippines (August 17, 2009) – The Philippine National Police (PNP) Service Store System has expanded its presence here with the opening of its first town store in the country. The first-ever municipal branch of the PNP Service Store System (PNP-SSS) nationwide was established Monday morning here.

Leading the inauguration of the branch was the town mayor, Reynaldo Velasco, a retired PNP general, Director Silverio Alarcio of the Directorate for Integrated Police Operation in Northern Luzon, Chief Superintendent Manuel Cachero, Deputy Regional Director of Ilocos Region PNP and retired PNP general Jose Antonio Salvacion, the administrator of the PNP-SSS.

"I thank the PNP for choosing our police station to host the first 'Mamang Pulis' store branch nationwide in the municipal level," Velasco remarks. PNP SSS is a government functional entity created under Presidential Decree No. 875 on January 15, 1976 operating under the administrative management of the Philippine National Police.

Its purpose is to provide common household and other merchandise to PNP personnel and other dependents at affordable and competitive prices in the region. It is used to be concentrated only at the PNP National Headquarters at Camp Crame and some separate units and regional headquarters.

Salvacion said several more PNP-SSS provincial branches will be set up this year although the objective is to bring this down to the municipal and city police station level. Store supervisor, PO3 Richard Palaganas said they are buying goods from suppliers and manufacturers, which sells at 12 percent lower.

PNP-SSS will serve policemen and their families, dependents and authorized buyers. What is good about the PNP-SSS, is that it sells 15 percent lower than the prices of goods that can be purchased outside.

"Percentage of the net income will go to Police Station's cooperative to support its various activities," says SPO4 Jaime Jimenez, the elected president of the local police cooperative.

"This is part of the PNP Integrated Transformation Program, purposely to benefit policemen and their families," said Superintendent Eric Noble, the town police chief.### Authority: PSUPT ERIC E NOBLE, Chief of Police, Sta Barbara Police Station, Pangasinan PPO, PRO 1)
