A total of 600 women from the police force and various women and children advocacy groups came together in Bohol last September for the 5th National Binneial Summit on Women in Policing. The two-day summit serves as capacity building efforts of our policewomen in addressing various concerns/issues on gender, women and children.
The Philippine National Police, Soroptimist International of the Philippine Region, Friends of PNP Foundation, and the Kababaihan Kaibigan Ng Kapayapaan collaborated in putting up the event.
Among the speakers during the 2-day summit are well-known luminaries and experts in promoting gender equality and women and children rights like the National Commission on the Role of Filipino Women Executive Director Emmeline Verzosa; SIPR Committee Chair, Adopt a PNP Women’s Desk, Atty Guia Martinez; Free Legal Assistance Bureau, Atty Ana Luz Cristal; Former AIM Chief of Staff, Gertie Tirona; Associate Dean, Center for Development Management AIM, Prof Mario Antonio Lopez, Chief of Women and Children Protection Center, PCSupt Yolanda Tanigue; Dr Lourdes Maquez, MD, and Ms Ligaya Abadesco. Likewise, Senator Alan Peter Cayetano, Taguig Representative, Hon. Ma. Lourdes “Linda” Cayetano and Bulacan 3rd District Representative Hon. Lorna Silverio were also present to share their knowledge and expertise.
Aside from the lectures, retirees, achievers and emerging leaders from the ranks of the policewomen were also recognized. |
