An estimated 1,000 police and military personnel will run alongside 100 Catholic priests, Muslim Imams and other leaders of religious congregations in a covenant run for clean and orderly elections dubbed “Takbo Para sa Malinis, Maayos at Mapayapang Halalan 2010” tomorrow (Saturday, Jan 30) in Quezon City.
PNP Chief, Director General Jesus A Verzosa and AFP Chief of Staff, General Victor Ibrado will lead their respective contingent of PNP and AFP runners in the unity run to muster public support for honest, orderly and peaceful elections in May. Verzosa said the covenant run was organized to complement efforts of the PNP, AFP and religious sector, and to showcase the unity of these three major institutions in ensuring honest, orderly and peaceful elections. Ibrado said participation of the religious sector in the unity run is spearheaded by the Military Ordinariate of the Philippines. PNP Spokesman, Chief Supt Leonardo A Espina said the unity run will kick-off at the Camp Crame Grandstand at 4:30 AM Saturday and will end at the Camp Aguinaldo Grandstand. Espina said the covenant run is also expected to attract participation and draw public support from other sectors and stakeholders in civil society. |
