A selection committee of the Search for the Country’s Outstanding Policemen in Service (COPS) has chosen 20 finalists to advance to the panel interview and final judging on May 18 and 20, 2011.

The selection committee screened more than 60 nominations nationwide. It was composed of representatives from various sectors such as the Free Legal Assistance Group, Commission on Human Rights, Institute of Human Rights, National Police Commission and Rotary Club District 3780. Representatives from program partners Philippine National Police and Rotary Club of New Manila East were also part of the committee.

The rigid and rigorous selection process involved a review of the nominees’ documents including seven of their most important cases and seven community mobilization projects or activities.

The selection committee together program partners Metrobank Foundation, PSBank, Rotary Club of New Manila East and the PNP were pleased with the turn-out of nominations and the 20 finalists that were chosen based on their strong partnership with the communities they serve.

More than P3 million in cash, trophies, and other prizes await 10 winners of this year’s Search for COPS.

A maximum of four Commissioned Officers and six non-Commissioned Officers can win in the search and will be recognized by President Benigno Aquino III in a simple ceremony at Malacañan Palace in June this year.

The COPS search is a career service award that recognizes top policemen and women for their consistent outstanding contributions in preventing and solving crimes through community work and mobilization.

The search is a joint undertaking between the Metrobank Foundation, Inc. and the Rotary Club of New Manila East in partnership with PSBank and the Philippine National Police.
