mudanzaProvincial Intelligence Team Leader
Police Regional Office – MIMORAPA
Camp Vicente Lim, Calamba City, Laguna

SPO2 Mudanza’s 19-year career with the PNP gives adequate proof to the fact that justice is not always served through the barrel of a gun. While his exploits in crime solution has led to the arrest of notorious all duly recognized criminal syndicates, all duly recognized in the form of numerous medals from the medals from the police and military hierarchy – including a special award from the United States Department of Justice-Federal Bureau of Investigation – as well as by way of various commendations from local government units, his work with farmers, indigenous communities and the youth are just as significant, if not more meaningful.

Time and again, SPO2 Mundaza’s excellent rapport with the community has been invaluable in bringing the long arm of justice bear upon fugitives from the law, from the most wanted police characters to the members of kidnap-for-ransom groups to armed regulars of New People’s Army. His concern for justice to be served, however extends to landless peasants whose long wait for the implementation of agrarian reform is aggravated by vested interest of local politicians, and to members of the Aeta and Mangyan communities whose lack of education and livelihood opportunities have further marginalized them from the rest of society. Out of his own initiatives and resources, SPO2 Mudanza assisted these farmer-beneficiaries and facilitated the resettlement of affected indigenous communities. He also established the Bayanihan Pederasyon ng Silangang Mindoro in an effort to scale up socio-economic development among agrarian reform communities and provided assistance to fishermen in the Second District of Oriental Mindoro. In giving his fellow Filipinos a shot at a better quality of life, he inevitably brought the PNP closer to the people, much more than any community relations project can achieve.

Now a resident of Oriental Mindoro, SPO2 Mundaza traces his roots to Negros Occidental. He holds a Bachelors degree in Peace and Security Studies from the Bicol University and is married to the former Wennie Sarmiento, with whom he has three children.
