Now on her 19th year of service in the police establishment, P/Supt Gido is a 53-year old veteran who has successfully led a campaign against organized crime perpetrated by gangs and other lawless elements. These include the Diaz Medina Group, which was engaged in cases of swindling and estafa; the Ipit gang, which preyed on hapless commuters in public transports; and the Nuevo Group, a notorious robbery and holdup gang. Her efforts led to the arrest of leaders and members of these gangs and the neutralization of their criminal operations. One of her most significant achievements, however, is in breaking up of a syndicate that spawned hundreds of illegal squatters on prime residential lots in the city.
As a firm believer of partnership and networking, P/Supt Gido harnesses the support not just of immediate stakeholders in the community, including schools and religious institutions, but engages other government agencies as well as private sector organizations to implement an integrated approach to crime prevention. These include the conduct of seminars on drug and substance abuse, gender awareness, information dissemination through dialogues and a weekly radio program, among others. She likewise helped establish various organizational procedures and operational plans to help make members of the police forces more responsive and efficient in the performance of their tasks.
Originally from Pangasinan, she has made Quezon City her home, where she is raising two children with her spouse P/Supt Bertran M. Gido, with whom she has six children. Aside from an undergraduate degree in Commerce and a Masters degree in Criminology, P/Supt Gido also completed Law studies and passed the Bar in 1996. |
