POLICE SUPERINTENDENT LOUIE TIROY OPPUS Print E-mail
oppusP/Supt Oppus is currently the Chief of Lapu-Lapu City Police Station in Barangay Pusok, Lapu-lapu City. A career policeman for the past 23 years, P/Supt Oppus’ outstanding service record is amply substantiated by the numerous awards and commendations he has received, including a Presidential merit Medal from President Fidel V. Ramos in 1998.

As Chief of Police of Tagbilaran City from 1999 to 2003, his efforts and accomplishments earned fro the city the Most Outstanding Peace and Order Council (Component City) Award in 1999. A year later, the city was honored by President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo as the Best Performing Local Government Unit in the Campaign Against Illegal Drugs in Region 7. P/Supt Oppus himself as adjudged as Senior Police Commissioned Officer of the Year 2000 for Region 7 and twice for the whole province of Bohol (2000 and 2001). For his innovative and effective managerial efforts, the Tagbilaran City Police Station was awarded in 2001 and 2002 as the Best Police Station of the Year for Region 7.

Among his most recent accomplishments include the establishment of “Bike Cops”, an innovative approach to crime prevention that is patterned after the practice in most major American cities. He also institutionalized the use of “166” as a police emergency number, allowing law enforcement personnel to quickly respond to calls for assistance. In both cases, P/Supt Oppus garnered the support of various sectors in the community, including the church. Recognizing that maintenance of peace and order is a social concern, he embarked on a proactive public outreach program that facilitated the involvement of various stakeholders in the community. He visited schools, held symposia on crime prevention and drug-related issues, and conducted dialogues with local officials and residents of different barangays.

A native of Tagbilaran City and a father of three children, P/Supt Oppus is 46 years old and a graduate of Philippine Military Academy, Class 1984. He earned Masters degree in Public Administration and Management from the Manuel L. Quezon University in 1996and the Asian Institute of Management in 1997, respectively. Prior to his stint as Chief of Police of his birthplace, P/Supt Oppus served as the Chief of the Security Operations branch, then as Chief of Staff for Intelligence, of the Presidential Security Group.
