A veteran police with a 20-year service record, SPO4 Sangalang’s multifarious assignments bespeak of his competence, professionalism, and integrity, hallmarks of a long and distinguished career in the PNP. His outstanding accomplishments recently merited the honor of recognition as the Best Senior Police Non-Commissioned Officer in Region 4 and the Dangal ng PNP Award from the Police Regional Office 4, both for the year 2002.
In line with his functions, SPO4 Sangalang organized Bantay Bayan units in all the municipalities in the province of Laguna, which effectively augments the police capability in the area. In addition, as coordinator of a radio group called Bantay Krimen, his network of contacts and community-based support system helped his unit effect numerous arrests of wanted criminal elements in the province. A most sought after speaker for young audiences, he takes these opportunities to lecture on the evils of drug addiction, illegal gambling, intoxication and smoking, and vagrancy. He is likewise involved in the conduct of medical and dental missions, sports and socio-cultural activities, livelihood development, disaster and relief efforts, and many other social mobilization projects. All in all, his most notable achievements in terms of police-community relations has brought the PNP closer to its various constituents in the field, especially in the course of dialogues, seminars, orientation activities and workshops that SPO4 Sangalang frequently organizes and/or facilitates.
An alumna of the Laguna Colleges in San Pablo City, Laguna where he earned a Bachelor’s degree in Commerce, SPO4 Sangalang joined the former Philippine Constabulary as a constable in 1983. Indeed, his graduation at the top of a class of 190 recruits seemed like a portent of greater achievements to come. He holds a Masters in Public Administration from Trinity College. He is married, with three children, to Lerma Sangalang.
