A graduate of the Philippine Military Academy, P/Supt. Sermonia was the youngest in his class to join the now-defunct Philippine Constabulary in 1989. Since then, he has distinguished himself as a competent and highly effective police officer, earning various honors and recognition in the course of his 14-year career.
Adjudged as the Best Junior Commissioned Officer of the Year 2002, his prior assignment as Chief of Police of Cavite City helped the City Component Police Station with the distinction of being the Best Police Station in the province of Cavite and one of the best in region 4 last year. As a result, he was conferred the 2002 Dangal ng PNP Award by the Kiwanis and Rotary Clubs, the City Government of Cavite, the Regional Trial Court, and other government and socio-civic organizations of the province. His noteworthy accomplishments include the neutralization of various criminal gangs, among which are the Nostrales/Patinio, Bucala, and Tres Valles Kidnap-for-Ransom Gangs, the apprehension of big-time drug pushers that include the Ruiz Group, the neutralization of the Virtucio Hijacking Syndicate and the Rumbawa robbery/holdup gang, and the arrest of two key members of the CPP/NPA last October 2002. In addition, P/Supt. Sermonia is also credited with the establishment of successful community-based projects that helped enhance the image of the PNP and involved members of the community in securing peace and order. His list of crime intervention initiatives include the Patrol ng Bayan, which involved the participation of local barangay units and members of different NGOs and socio-civic action groups; the Bahay Kalinga and Bahay Pag-asa, which are temporary care and refuge centers for sexually abused women and youth offenders, respectively; the Kapihan ng Istasyon, which is a regular forum that aims to thresh out problems in the community; the Junior Police Program involving college interns from a local university; and the Cine Istasyon, a free entertainment program that serves as anti-drugs and anti-criminality information dissemination programs.
P/Supt. Sermonia finished his Masters in Business Administration in Wesleyan University. He is a native of Bayombong, Nueva Vizcaya and is married to Cherry Lino, with whom he has three children. |
